Puzzle is AI accounting software for US startups, small businesses, and accounting firms. Its general ledger connects to the services where financial activity already happens, then uses AI agents to categorise transactions, prepare reconciliations, review the books, and help complete month end work.

Native connections include Mercury, Brex, Ramp, Stripe, Gusto, Rippling, Deel, and BILL. Plaid adds access to thousands of banks and card providers. Transactions flow into Puzzle each day, where suggested categories and accounting rules handle routine entries while uncertain work remains available for review.

Puzzle maintains cash and accrual books in the same system. Reports include the profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash activity report. Revenue and spend explorers, significant change monitoring, financial narratives, and cash runway analysis provide more context for founders who want to understand the numbers without building another spreadsheet.

AI agents and month end close

The categorisation agent learns from the ledger and previous decisions. Reconciliation agents compare account data with ledger entries and flag exceptions. Insight agents can produce financial commentary and analysis from current records.

AI Close runs month end steps such as reconciliations, accuracy checks, and variance explanations. The feature is built primarily for accounting partners and supported plans. Staff remain in control of approvals and exceptions rather than handing the close process to an unattended bot.

Accounting firms receive a multi client admin portal with team permissions, company access controls, shared resources, and firm level workflows. Puzzle states that it does not compete with firms by selling bookkeeping or accounting services directly to their clients.

Migration and accounting limits

Puzzle can migrate balances and historical journal entries from QuickBooks Online and other accounting systems. Its migration documentation says it does not transfer full transaction history, invoices, bills, or vendor records. Businesses that need detailed historical data inside the new ledger should clarify the migration scope before switching.

Puzzle is currently built for US entities using US dollars. Direct multicurrency accounting is not supported. Multi entity consolidation is available through a separate Joiin integration, which can combine Puzzle data with entities using other accounting systems.

The software does not directly provide bookkeeping, tax preparation, or tax filing. Those services are available through accounting partners. Puzzle also does not guarantee that automated revenue recognition complies with ASC 606 in every case. Categories, reconciliations, financial statements, revenue schedules, and tax records need review by a qualified accountant.

Puzzle states that it follows SOC 2 controls. The company was founded in 2019 and has received institutional funding led by General Catalyst and other investors. Independent public review volume remains limited compared with QuickBooks and Xero, so most detailed performance figures and case studies come from Puzzle itself.

Access is paid after the trial. AI chat and agent actions use credits, and the more advanced reconciliation, accuracy review, close, and reporting features depend on the selected plan or add on.
