Easy MCP AI turns a WordPress website into a remote Model Context Protocol server. Once installed, AI clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and n8n can read site data and carry out approved WordPress tasks.

The plugin runs inside WordPress using PHP. There is no Node.js process, external proxy, or separate server to maintain. Install the plugin, connect an MCP client through OAuth or a bearer token, choose its permissions, and WordPress supplies the tools the assistant is allowed to call.

The current release includes 242 MCP tools. Core tools cover posts, pages, media, comments, users, menus, taxonomies, custom post types, Gutenberg blocks, themes, plugins, and site settings. An assistant can draft a post, upload an image, set its alt text, assign categories, and save everything for review without someone copying content between chat and the WordPress dashboard.

Plugin integrations extend that access to WooCommerce, Advanced Custom Fields, BuddyPress, The Events Calendar, and six major SEO plugins. Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO, SEOPress, Slim SEO, and The SEO Framework are supported. The WooCommerce tools can work with products, orders, customers, coupons, shipping settings, and sales reports.

The external data connectors are particularly useful for content teams. Easy MCP AI can bring Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Semrush, SE Ranking, DataForSEO, and Ahrefs data into an AI conversation. You could ask for low competition keywords, create a content outline, publish the resulting article as a draft, populate its SEO fields, and later check its search performance.

These integrations use accounts and credentials supplied by the website owner. The plugin itself does not provide an AI model or include paid access to external SEO services. You still need a compatible AI client, and some connected data providers may charge for their APIs.

There is a substantial set of permission and auditing controls. Tokens can be restricted to selected tools, every request runs with the capabilities of its assigned WordPress user, and administrators can apply rate limits or IP restrictions. The audit log records tool calls, arguments, results, timestamps, and client addresses. Change History keeps before and after snapshots of changes made through MCP.

The Force Draft option is worth using on a production site. It makes new posts and pages remain drafts even if the AI requests publication. Pair it with a dedicated Contributor or Author account and the assistant cannot quietly inherit an administrator's access.

Permissions are enforced through WordPress roles rather than individual posts or pages. If an assigned user can edit every post belonging to another author, the connected assistant inherits that ability. Site owners should review the user role, enabled tools, OAuth scopes, and external service credentials before giving an agent write access.

WordPress 6.0 or later is supported. Sites running WordPress 6.9 or later can also expose tools registered through the WordPress Abilities API, allowing compatible plugins to become available without a custom Easy MCP AI integration.

The plugin is free and open source, with no paid tier or plugin usage allowance. WordPress.org currently reports thousands of active installations and a small set of positive reviews. Feedback mentions broad publishing and SEO controls, although one reviewer needed developer help resolving an OAuth connection problem. MCP setup is easier here than building a server yourself, but connecting AI clients and choosing sensible permissions still requires some technical care.
