Reflect

Reflect is a personal note-taking app that connects daily notes, meeting records and research through backlinks. Its AI tools help you summarize material, extract action items, improve drafts and ask questions about information you have already saved.

Linked notes let you connect people, projects and ideas without placing every note in a folder. You can collect browser clips and reading highlights, transcribe voice notes, and attach meeting context through calendar integrations. The original Reflect app supports Google Calendar, Outlook, Readwise and browser capture, with syncing across devices.

The AI Palette works on selected text, using saved or custom prompts to produce summaries, outlines and revisions. Chat with your notes can draw on filtered search results, making it useful for reviewing a project's history or finding recurring themes. A desktop MCP integration also lets compatible AI assistants search, create and edit notes. Those editing permissions deserve the same care as direct access to your notebook.

Privacy depends on the feature you use. The original app encrypts note contents end to end, but text submitted to the AI Palette and notes included in AI chat results are sent to external model providers. Encrypted storage does not mean AI processing happens entirely on your device.

Reflect and Reflect Open

The original Reflect remains available as a paid subscription with a 14-day trial. Reflect Open is a separate app, with a free, open-source Mac version and an iPhone TestFlight release. It stores notes as local Markdown files and uses your own AI provider credentials, with provider usage billed separately.

Reflect Open adds no encryption layer of its own. Sync and backup depend on your chosen storage service, such as iCloud or Git. Notes marked private are excluded from AI processing. New development is focused on Reflect Open, while the original app continues to receive maintenance. Check which version has the integrations and platform support you need before migrating.
