Divi is the WordPress builder from Elegant Themes, now rebuilt around Divi 5 and its newer AI website tools. It is still a visual drag and drop builder for WordPress, but the current version is much more about speed, design systems, dynamic content, and AI assisted site building than the older theme and page builder label suggests.
The big Divi 5 change is technical. Elegant Themes rebuilt the builder from the ground up, removed the old shortcode based foundation, and moved Divi toward a block based WordPress storage format. That matters if you have avoided Divi in the past because of shortcode lock in, performance complaints, or older builder baggage. Divi 5 is meant to fix that base layer, not just add another shiny panel in the editor.
The builder itself now feels closer to a proper design workspace. You get docked and tabbed panels, a layers panel, right click menus, breadcrumbs, setting search, field variables, design presets, customizable breakpoints, CSS units, math functions, and a command center. That is the kind of stuff that sounds boring until you are editing the same header across 40 client pages and one stray font value refuses to die.
Divi AI is the AI part. It can generate full websites, page layouts, individual sections, copy, images, custom CSS, HTML, and JavaScript from inside the Divi Builder. Because it works inside Divi, it can use the current page context, site details, brand colors, fonts, and Divi module structure. That makes it more practical than generating a page in a separate AI tool and then rebuilding it by hand in WordPress.
The image tools are also built into the workflow. Divi AI can create images, edit existing images, extend an image beyond its frame, upscale small assets, and suggest visuals based on the content around them. It will not replace a proper designer or photographer, but it can fill the annoying gaps in a small business site where you need a decent hero image, service graphic, or section background and the client has supplied three blurry JPGs from 2017.
Divi is best for WordPress users, freelancers, agencies, and business owners who want one builder across many sites. The single license model and unlimited website usage are still a major reason agencies use it. It is less appealing if you want a lightweight block theme, a custom coded stack, or a hosted site builder where you never touch WordPress maintenance.
Pricing is paid. Divi has annual and lifetime membership options, while Divi Pro adds recurring services such as Divi AI, Divi Cloud, Divi Teams, Divi VIP, marketplace benefits, and priority support. Divi 5 is included for Divi members, and existing Divi sites can be upgraded, with backward compatibility for older Divi 4 sites.
